The Concertina Ashtray a playful and fun way of creating a cleaner environment through the use of theory, ‘if someone is watching you, you’re less likely to commit an offence’.
The Concertina Ashtray is designed to capture smokers’ eyes by using the optical illusion of eyes following you. This notion of you being ‘watched’ should be enough for smokers to dispose of their butts in the ashtray. The Concertina Ashtray has been designed to allow smokers to capture it from both directions, image on one side and the disposal hole on the other.
The images can range from famous locals to the Mona Lisa. This add an element of playfulness where the interaction becomes more than just a visual element but a memorable one should be enough to change the behaviour of the smoker.

Neat Streets Edinburgh
This is a great take on reducing cigarette litter. The Concertina Ashtrays are being trialled as part of Neat Streets Edinburgh, an anti-litter campaign run by Hubbub UK in collaboration with Keep Scotland Beautiful, The City of Edinburgh Council, and local residents and shopkeepers from the Greater Grassmarket Business Improvement District (BID).
