The aim of this campaign is to emphasise that keeping areas litter-free is a lifestyle change rather than a one-off action, so we have taken on a community resolution to pick up a minimum of one piece of litter a day. We also have major block cleanings on Saturday's.
We use a dry eraser board to track the litter counts on consecutive days to track the progress, and we share pictures of the counts on Instagram. We also ask people to share pictures of themselves picking up litter with the hashtags #operationcleanmountvernon #operationcleanmv and #operationcleanworld.
The main goal is to meet anyone who cares about their neighborhood in their neighborhood. We help them clean. We act as a support group to help those who are burdened by litter everyday.
The campaign is tracked on Instagram and just under 3,000 people are following the journey. Approximately 50 pieces of litter are collected each day.
People have donated litter collection supplies to us - it's definitely worth asking around to see if local organisations and buisnesses would be willing to do the same for you.
We have also partnered with city hall so we can leave the collected bags of trash in areas normally cleaned by city hall, for example in city parks or next to garbage bins.
If you would like to join the campaign, pease use hastags such as #operationclean followed by the name of the city. We also believe #operationcleanworld as something everyone could use, so please join us in doing so.
Please give us credit by also adding #operationcleanmountvernon so everyone knows where it began.
