A 3D messaging system of letters constructed from chicken wire and rebar, filled with litter collected from the roads and highways. By displaying these large scale visual messages in public places the hope is to provoke response, thought and action. The Litter Letter Project is a way to begin the conversation.
This project began as my personal response to the litter collected daily in front of my property along the highway in Louisiana in 2012. As a designer and educator with a deep love of 3D typography, I created a series of protoypes to test the idea of using the litter as the message. Following a small grant and several installations in Louisiana, I have since helped communities and organizations create Litter Letters in Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, Arizona, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Perth/Albany Australia
Community pride is the number one effect of this project to date. The Litter Letter Project is a way to begin the conversation and has connected people in many communities as they built the installations together. The outcome of this project have grown since its inception and we learn from each community as I keep sharing the journey on my website.
I am originally from Derby, England. Love what you are doing on this website!
